The Petrel

As I stated in my last post, I have started to build a Petrel. The Petrel is a high performance rough water sea kayak. It was designed by Nick Schade and Nick is the paddler in all of these photos. In this photo Nick is playing in the rough surf caused by hurricane Hana.
The Petrel is very fast and very maneuverable. It can handle rough water better than most any other boat known to man. Yet it is easy for even a novice to paddle.

The Petrel is a very beautiful kayak with sleek lines. The Bow and stern curve up at the ends. It even looks fast when it's standing still. It's not an easy kayak to build but nice things never come easy. I am looking forward to watching the Petrel take shape.

Kayak # 3

Well I have started a third Kayak. I just do not have the time to wait for glue to dry. As I'm working on the Guillemot, I get frustrated because I have to stop working to allow the glue or the epoxy to set. My time is to valuable to just sit around. So today when I was forced to stop working, I started a Petrel.
Then I did a little on the Guillemot. Then a little bit more on the Petrel. Then back to the Guillemot. And back and forth until I got tired and quit for the day. Now that is how you get a lot of work done on your day off.
